A super-tough, easy-care and fast-growing native flowering shrub with four-season appeal, the Ginger Wine Ninebark expands the color palette among Physocarpus, and in landscape design. Immensely colorful through spring and fall, the attractive three-lobed, maple-like leaves emerge a glowing orange with red overtones maturing to and holding a deep burgundy red in summer and fall. Clusters of contrasting, domed, pink-tinted white flowers appear in late spring to early summer followed by fascinating, inflated red seed heads that contrast beautifully with the foliage. Layers of peeling red-brown bark on the branches and stems, hence the name “ninebark,” take the stage during the winter months. A trouble-free and colorful beauty that deserves a spot in every landscape where it will grow. USDA Zones 3a-7b. Cold hardy to -40F!
